The Brooklyn Nets have fired head coach Lionel Hollins after a season and a half with him at the helm. As well, the team also decided to demote general manager Billy King and reassign him to a different position. All of this on the cusp of a 10-27 season so far.

Hollins seemed to have a strained relationship with his players, and didn’t seem to adapt to the current trends of the NBA. His overall record wasn’t good and the team lost in the first round of the playoffs in his first season. Plus, the Nets currently have the third-worst record in the league this year.

Tony Brown will be the interim head coach for the Nets the remainder of the season. Brown is the team’s fifth head coach since moving to Brooklyn four years ago.

King will be under contract, but will have no real input on the Nets’ future general manager . When the trade deadline arrives, the assistant general manager will be the one taking the calls. Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov says that the team will take a patient approach when finding their new coach and general manager.

The Nets timing might be a little weird, it’s rare that the head coach and general manager get fired mid season, at the same time, but the team felt that they wanted as much time as possible to find their replacements. With only 10 wins on the season, it makes sense to start over now because there’s no chance of the Nets making the playoffs. Hopefully a new voice and a new direction will inspire the players to play harder and get as many wins as they can (with the Boston Celtics owning the Nets pick, there’s no incentive to tank).

The Nets will take their time and search for the perfect coach and general manager for the team. Prokhorov has already admitted that they don’t have a set plan as of yet, but again, that’s why they made the move so early, so that they can take the rest of the season to figure it out. Things were looking really bad when Jarrett Jack and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson went down, but after this Hollins firing, it’s safe to say that the Nets season is officially OVER!
