Tank-O-Meter – 2/5 - Change is needed in Minny
It's crazy to say that a team who had added major talents with back to back 1st overall picks is In a questionable spot for the future, but somehow the T-Wolves have gotten there. After the passing of coach Flip Saunders the team essentially punted on the 2015-2016 season with a roster of young players and no real chance to make the postseason. On the positive side Minny does have some real assets in Karl-Anthony Towns, who looks to be a Tim Duncan/Anthony Davis hybrid. In addition to the KAT, former top pick Andrew Wiggins appears to have star potential and guard Zach Lavine has shown promise as an explosive scorer. Unfortunately both their games have raised a questions. Lavine is all about consistency, he needs to show that he can be more than a VERY streaky scorer and become someone the team can count upon. Wiggins is statically has had an awesome year but NBA writers have started mentioning the dreaded “R” word whenever he is mentioned ….Rudy Gay. While Wiggins is arguably the most talented player around, his lack of aggression, defensive fire and 28% three point shooting have all been a cause for concern. While he is still has a lot of time to grow, this can be seen is frustrating for a guy with such a high pedigree.
What is even more frustrating for Timberwolves fans is wondering when this will ever end, losing season after season will have this effect. During this year’s last few weeks the team needs to get a final look at what they have, what picks they will have in the draft and make a decision on what is next. A 3 assets for 1 All-Star trade perhaps? A move like that is necessary if the team wants to break out of the endless lottery cycle.
