What It Means for the Pacers

The Pacers aren’t playing games this offseason. A day after acquiring point guard Jeff Teague from the Atlanta Hawks, they pull the trigger on a trade for power forward Thaddeus Young from the Brooklyn Nets. Young gives the Pacers a versatile power forward that can contribute on both ends of the floor. Additionally, he doesn’t need the ball to be impactful, he makes plenty of plays with his toughness and energy. Young also will fit right in with the new style Larry Bird and Nate McMillan want to run. Not to mention, Young is on a nice contract going forward, and the Pacers didn’t have to give up much to get him.
What it Means for the Nets

The Nets traded away their second best player to acquire the 20th pick in the 2016 NBA Draft and a future second round pick. Yeah, it doesn’t sound sexy, but this team needs young talent. Young was great for them last season, but the fact of the matter is this team isn’t going to win a championship any time soon. So grabbing a pick for Young makes sense, And with that pick the Nets selected Caris LeVert from Michigan. A high-risk, high-reward type of pick. LeVert has lottery talent, but he also has had foot issues, missing significant time the last two seasons. With that said, the Nets foot specialist (the doctor who performed surgery on Kevin Durant and Brook Lopez’s feet) performed LeVert’s last surgery, so the team could have some inside info.
As well, dealing Young has opened up more money for the Nets, they possibility could have up to $55 million dollars in cap space.
