The Atlanta Hawks are now 2-0 in the Las Vegas Summer League after defeating the Washington Wizards summer club 88-80 this afternoon. The Hawks 2.0 play a lot like the real deal with crisp ball movement and steady three-point shooting. Two of those deadeye shooters, Bryce Cotton and Kevin Pangos, are pining for the backup point guard spot behind new starter Dennis Schroder.
The Hawks may not have to look very far in order to fill the roster spot. Cotton, a two-year veteran with stops in Utah, Phoenix and most recently Memphis, finished the game with a team high 21 points on 7-11 shooting. Pangos, having most recently played professionally in Spain for Herbalife Gran Canaria, went 4-5 from the floor and finished with 12 points.
Both guards played well while sharing minutes and occasionally playing in the floor together. Cotton scored seven points during the fourth quarter and Pangos drew a huge charge on Wizards hopeful and former Iowa Hawkeye forward Aaron White to stop a potential Washington comeback. Both guards have the ability to spell Schroder 10-15 minutes per night. Cotton looks to be the favorite at the moment with plenty of summer ball and preseason camp to go before the season starts this fall.
