Chris Bosh Career Ending Diagnosis: It’s Complicated

Chris Bosh has been ruled medically unable to resume play by a joint medical review by the NBA and the player’s union. The 33-year-old, two-time NBA Champion suffers from blood clots, a condition that caused him to sit out the entire 2016 – 2017 season. Now, the Miami Heat can waive the power forward/center hybrid, shedding the remaining two years and $52 million on his contract in the process at any time. (SB Nation)

Once waived, Bosh will no longer be connected to the Heat organization in any way. To return to the league to play again for any other team he would have to prove his fitness to the same panel that ruled his condition as career-ending. Despite team President Pat Riley’s resolve to push on without him, Bosh remains resolved to returning to the hardwood. (Fox Sports)

South Florida Sentinel’s report Ira Winderman tweeted, “to reiterate, have been told by a party familiar with Bosh agreement 9-month waiting period in new CBA not in play here. This is a one off,” and sportscaster Colin Cowherd concurred, tweeting “wishing the best to @chrisbosh. Total respect on and off the floor. Class.”

Is he leaving the league?

Don’t count Bosh out. He hasn’t said anything officially and his Twitter has remained silent on the subject. If he does mount a comeback, I’d expect him to come off the bench as a reserve for a team looking to buttress it’s frontcourt with size, experience and leadership. Either way, wishing him all the best in whatever he decides to do.
