The New York Knicks and free agent point guard Ramon Sessions came to an agreement on a one year contract worth the veterans minimum.
The 31 year old guard is a ten year NBA veteran and has spent the majority of his career bouncing around from team to team. Sessions has played for 7 different NBA franchises in his career.
Sessions holds career averages of 10.6 points and 4.1 assists in 23.7 minutes of game action. Sessions has a career shooting percentage of 43.6% from the field and 31.6% from three.
Sessions appeared in 50 games with the Charlotte Hornets. He was forced to miss the final two months with a meniscus tear in his knee. The same injury that derailed Rose and ended Rose’s season with the Knicks.
Sessions played 16.2 minutes a night scoring 6.2 points and dishing out 2.6 assists. He knocked down 21 of his 62 three points attempts. A significantly low number of attempts and makes for a point guard.
What Sessions brings to the Knicks is a veteran leadership to the Knicks two young point guards. The Knicks drafted Frank Ntlilikina with the 8th overall selection and have second year guard Ron Baker under contract.
Sessions will likely begin the season as the starting point guard if the Knicks do not acquire one in a trade before the season begins.
The Knicks have displayed interest in getting Kyrie Irving but no traction has been made on that front.
Sessions will not receive that many more minutes than they did last season. He will get the same amount of playing time expect sharing the duty with Ntilikina and Baker.
Sessions is not a flashy signing but brings veteran stability to the position. His value will be a player coach to the young guards to show them how to run an offense.
A low risk - low reward type move for the Knicks but a free agent signing that needed to be done.
