With a new week, fantasy basketball owners can take a fresh look at their rosters. Trades can be hard to pull off, so the waiver wire.
For the final days of November and into December, here are five waiver additions to consider.
Terry Rozier, G, Boston Celtics
Yahoo! Ownership: 25% ESPN Ownership: 17.4%
Rozier has been a solid contributor so far this season, averaging 9.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game. But over his last two games, has scored 40 points with terrific (unsustainable) efficiency (15-for-20 from the floor; 7-for-10 from beyond the arc).
Rozier is not starting for the Celtics, but he has played at least 20 minutes in 11 of his last 13 games with 14 or more points five times and at least five rebounds eight times in that span.
If you’re carrying too many injured or underachieving players right now, Rozier is a solid depth add to consider.
John Henson, C, Milwaukee Bucks
Yahoo! Ownership: 35% ESPN Ownership: 14.5%
The trade of Greg Monroe opened a starting spot for Henson, who has averaged 8.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.3 blocks per game over the last 10 games. He has scored in double figures in four of his last five games, with two double-doubles in the last four games.
Henson won’t wow in any one category, but based on starter-level minutes he can accumulate in multiple categories with shooting percentages that won’t hurt fantasy owners.
Kris Dunn, PG, Chicago Bulls
Yahoo! Ownership: 56% ESPN Ownership: 27.8%
Dunn has taken a downturn over his last two games (eight points, 2-for-17 from the floor). But over the previous eight contests he scored in double figures seven times, while averaging 5.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.3 steals and 12.6 shot attempts per game.
Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg remains committed to Dunn as the starting point guard, so any concerns about Jerian Grant taking that role can be set aside right now. Based purely on a long leash, and be allowed to play through ups and downs, Dunn is worth a look in fantasy leagues.
Larry Nance Jr., PF, Los Angeles Lakers
Yahoo! Ownership: 36% ESPN Ownership: 12%
Nance has been sidelined since early November with a broken hand, but he’s expected to return Monday night against the Los Angeles Clippers.
Prior to being injured, Nance averaged 10.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game in eight games. He is expected to bump Kyle Kuzma to the bench, but there seems to be room for both guys to produce.
Nance probably shouldn’t be immediately plugged back into fantasy starting lineups this week. But he is absolutely worth adding immediately, if only as a pre-emptive stash.
Donovan Mitchell, SG/PG, Utah Jazz
Yahoo! Ownership: 72% ESPN Ownership: 48.7%
Over his last nine games (all starts) Mitchell is averaging 17.0 points, 4.3 rebounds. 4.2 assists and 1.7 steals per game over nearly 32 minutes per contest.
After a fairly rough October, the rookie out of Louisville is averaging 17.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game over 13 November games while making 2.5 three-pointers per game.
As Ricky Rubio’s fantasy arrow in the Jazz backcourt has gone down this month, Mitchell’s has seemingly gone up in concert. Those trends may even out some, but Mitchell is a multi-category and a multi-position eligible fantasy asset.
