It’s quite simple. The New York Knicks are in drastic need of a point guard. Jarrett Jack is not the point guard that New York needs if they want to make a run at the playoffs. Frank Ntilikina needs to develop in New York and considering they could’ve gotten a more NBA-ready guard like Dennis Smith Jr. or Donovan Mitchell, it seems the draft was not beneficial to the Knicks franchise in the slightest.
Dennis Schroder is a fast, quick guard with great scoring and playmaking abilities, exactly what the Knicks need right now. They need someone who can take over and score alongside Kristaps Porzingis and distribute the ball as well. With the abundance of centers that New York has it would be simple to send Joakim Noah and his huge contract to Atlanta for Schroder but that would not be beneficial to the Hawks. The Hawks wouldn’t need a center if this trade were to go down. I think it’s time to embrace rebuild mode in Atlanta. Courtney Lee would give them a decent scorer to go along with Kent Bazemore. They also could move Lee for another asset. Frank Ntilikina could be the young point guard in which they invest time and effort into while they are rebuilding, potentially around his playmaking and defense as a guard. As for Schroder, he is not able to exhibit his true talent on the Hawks. He is not at the point in his career where he can carry a team single handedly. Pairing him with Porzingis would prove to be very beneficial as he will be part of an electrifying offensive duo. The Knicks should be looking to make it into the playoffs and Schroder could easily be that last push to get a 7th or 8th seed. The Hawks likely won’t be making the playoffs this season even with Schroder, so they should be more focused on rebuilding and they can build around Ntilikina and future draft picks in a way that would prove to be more effective than Atlanta attempting to build around Schroder, since that really hasn’t been working for them for a few years now.
