I don't know if you know this, but the Cavaliers are not great. They play terrible defense and they are old. This trade solves some of those issues. The Cavaliers have to give up Kevin Love, but they get Derrick Favors and Alec Burks in return.
Kevin Love is on a good contract and is a very good player that does not get as much shine as he should due to Lebron's shadow. He fits perfectly next to Rudy Gobert as a floor spacing four that can also create offense for a Jazz team that can struggle on that end of the court. He is a nice player to pair with Donovan Mitchell for the future and they would solve their Derrick Favors problem with this move.
The Cavaliers need help at the rim and on the perimeter. Adding these two automatically improves Cleveland defensively. Derrick Favors is a decent enough shooter that he will not clog the lane and this season without Gobert, Favors was a monster. Alec Burks immediately becomes Cleveland's best perimeter defender and provides more scoring punch than people may have thought. In addition, Cleveland gets Burks for one more season on a nice contract and can allow Derrick Favors to leave via free agency if they are not interested.
I like this deal as constructed, but the Cavaliers could also add one of their bad contracts if they want and have the Jazz include another player or pick. This makes more sense than taking on George Hill or DeAndre Jordan if you ask me.
