10-time All-Star Carmelo Anthony has reached an agreement to join the Houston Rockets, reports Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports. July 30th, Anthony agreed to a contract buyout with the Atlanta Hawks worth about $25 million.
This agreement is expected to be worth about $2.4 million, or the least amount of money Carmelo Anthony could sign for. This is also the same amount of money Anthony gave up in his buyout with the Atlanta Hawks last week.
Anthony averaged 16 points, six rebounds, and one assist last season for the Oklahoma City Thunder, who were eliminated in the first round of the NBA playoffs by the fifth-seeded Utah Jazz. By trading Anthony, the Thunder save $91 million by decreasing their luxury tax bill. They also added Dennis Schroder and Timothe Luwawu-Cabbarot.
All in all, the Rockets add another player who should contribute on the offensive side of the ball. They lost Trevor Ariza and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute in early July. However, Houston was able to maintain Chris Paul on a four-year deal as well as Clint Capela on a five-year deal.
Carmelo Anthony has yet to officially sign a contract.
