The 2018-2019 NBA season starts October 16th and to get you ready for tip-off, Off the Glass is previewing all 30 teams. Today we look at the Charlotte Hornets.
2017-18 Record:
36-46, 10th seed in the Eastern Conference
Season Recap:
The Charlotte Hornets had another mediocre season after failing to live up to playoff expectations. Nic Batum and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist were among the many players that disappointed. Steve Clifford and Rich Cho were fired, which has given the Hornets a better sense of direction. However, Kemba Walker, despite the rumors, was not traded, also leaving questions as to what the new front office thinks it can accomplish this season.
Key Losses:
Dwight Howard (C), Treveon Graham (SF/PF)
Key Additions:
Miles Bridges (SF), Devonte' Graham (PG), Tony Parker (PG)
Player to Watch:
Malik Monk
Season Preview:
The Charlotte Hornets didn't do much this offseason. However, with a renewed sense of direction and basketball implemented by the front office, it's hard not to get excited for what this Hornets team has to offer, both in wins and entertainment value.
Malik Monk and Miles Bridges offer up a lot of athleticism, and that alone will draw fans into the stands. Kemba Walker is entering his contract year, so he will most certainly be playing for a max-contract extension.
Worst-Case Scenario:
If Charlotte starts their first ten games slow, it may get increasingly difficult for the Hornets as pressure from fans, opposing General Managers, along with their money situation may force Charlotte to deal All-Star point guard Kemba Walker. Should this come to fruition, Charlotte will most definitely be moving towards a rebuild.
Best-Case Scenario:
Charlotte has a chance to make the playoffs in 2018 - and that's all they need - a chance. If Miles Bridges turns out to be one of the more pro-ready rookie players like fans expect, along with Nic Batum returning to his old self, the Hornets could challenge for a playoff spot.
