Lakers receive - Nikola Vucevic, Terrence Ross
Magic receive - Kentavious Caldwell Pope, Lance Stephenson, Ivica Zubac, Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk, 1st round pick, 2nd round pick
Why the Lakers would do it - The Lakers are struggling with LeBron James sidelined by injury, and are quickly slipping in the standings. And even with LeBron, this team doesn’t have enough to truly compete for a championship. This trade gives them an immediate talent upgrade.
Nikola Vucevic has been playing at an all-star level all season and would be a great complement to LeBron. The Lakers could even run offense through him when LeBron rests. Terrence Ross gives the Lakers another shooter, which is always helpful for a LeBron team.
Why the Magic would do it - Orlando had a nice start to the season, but have since regressed. Vucevic is by far the Magic's best player, but it is unlikely the team will re-sign him this summer.
Orlando needs to capitalize on Vucevic now, while his value is at an all-time high. Ross is also an impending free agent, so the Magic can move on from him as well.
By moving these players, the Magic would get an expiring contract in Kentavious Caldwell Pope, who they could possible re-sign in the off-season. They also receive young players in Ivica Zubac and Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk, both of whom who could grow with their young core. A first round pick, second round pick, and the crafty Lance Stephenson on an expiring contract is a bonus as well.
