Trade Deadline Marathon: Day 23

Matt Peoples

Magic Receive: Markelle Fultz, Mike Muscala

Sixers Receive: Jonathan Simmons, Terrence Ross

The Markelle Fultz situation has officially hit “now what?” status. Because of this, the Sixers are reportedly open to moving on from Fultz and that he may welcome a change of scenery. The 20 year old guard is currently rehabbing, trying to recover the jump shot that has eluded him for years. Even then, the Sixers may be better off in moving the guard to try to address what has proven to be a thin bench for the ball club this season.

This may be the most logical trade for all teams involved so it leads off the trade ideas. The Magic may look to embrace the rebuild while they search for direction as a franchise. Fultz gives them a chance at a possible star talent while providing the landscape for him to take his lumps but with plenty of repetitions. Orlando has longed for an option at point guard and may be able to set their rebuild in motion while also shoring up that position.

The Sixers address their two biggest needs; wings and bench depth. Ross provides high level floor spacing and some degree of length even if he leaves something desired defensively. Simmons can look to regain his San Antonio form as he embraces a lesser, more fitting role as a defensive dog who can hit open shots. Both players offer the team options outside of their lacklustre bench and viable substitutions for Ben Simmons and Jimmy Butler while also pushing the corpse of Wilson Chandler into a bench role.
