We are just days away from a new year and a new decade. Are you ready to leave the past behind and ring in the new year, or are you clinging on to former glory wishing it would never end? Whatever the case may be, here are five guys who shined, five who burned out, and 10 possible candidates to lead your team in the new year.
Fantasy Studs
Five guys who stood out this week from the rest.
LaMarcus Aldridge. Old Man Aldridge dropped a 40 point game! Yep, you read that right. While he's looked a step slower this year than previous years, he had good week.
John Collins. The long awaited return of Collins is much needed for the Atlanta Hawks and fantasy teams alike. He's averaging over 23 points and 11 rebounds a game in his return.
Brandon Ingram. The change of scenery has been good for Ingram. He's been a top fantasy player all season and this week he continued to showcase his abilities. He hit seven three's one game, had 11 rebounds one game, and a game with seven assists.
Julius Randle. Randle had put up three straight games over 30 points or more each game, and even included a 16 rebound and six assist game. The Knicks have a 2-game winning streak at hand and that's largely in part to Randle.
Joel Embiid. Embiid had a slow start to the season and looked out of shape. However these past few weeks, he's turned things around. He's averaging 30 points and 11 rebounds the past three games.
Fantasy Duds
Five guys who are probably looking forward to putting this week behind them.
Blake Griffin. Blakey Baby, what's going on? His numbers are down all across the board and this week, his shooting percentages hit the post-Christmas blues with a paltry 24%.
PJ Tucker. Tucker is one of those glue guys who you like having on your team in real life, but that doesn't always translate to wanting them on your fantasy team. He rarely hit's double digit anything, which makes him hard to roster.
OG Anunoby. Similar to Tucker, Anunoby took a backseat this week, also failing to hit double digits for any statistical category.
Dario Saric. Saric is only owned in 54% of standard Yahoo leagues, but anytime a big guy goes 0-7 and only secures two rebounds, he's making this list.
Aaron Gordon. Gordon is only making this list because he's been wildly inconsistent. He strung together three straight double double games, and then put up an absolute stinker shooting 22% for five points and two rebounds. This has been a common theme for him.
Week 10 Overview
The holidays are just about over, so it's time to stop making excuses and start focusing on securing a playoff spot for your team before it's too late. 92% of New Years resolutions fail because people give up too early, don't be the person in your league who has already forgot about his team.
It's probably time to start navigating the trade waters depending on where your team is deficient. The halfway mark on the season is upon us and you don't want to get caught off guard too late to change your roster if need be.
Waiver Wire Potential
Here are 10 guys who are owned in 50% or less in standard Yahoo fantasy basketball leagues could possibly help your team this week.
Terrance Ross, SG/SF (48%). Ross has been a steady points producer and good source of threes. He's also getting a steal each game which is nice too.
Rudy Gay, SF/PF (47%). This is a name you haven't heard in awhile, but he's put together back-to-back double double games with points and rebounds and is worth a look before he crosses over that 50% ownership threshold.
Duncan Robinson, SG/SF/PF (44%). Robinson continues to score points from deep with good percentages. He doesn't offer much help anywhere else, but he's caught fire lately.
Nemanja Bjelica, PF (43%). If you've followed this column long enough, then you might starting thinking Bjelica is the new Fultz. He's been a really solid fantasy option for awhile, so i'm leaving him on the list for awhile.
Damion Lee, SG (41%). One of the lone bright spots on the Warriors season, Lee is providing a good source of rebounds from the guard position. He's averaging over 11 rebounds per game in his last three.
Isaiah Thomas, PG (39%). Thomas is back from a two game absence and put up a 20/4/4 line. I'm honestly surprised he isn't owned in more leagues.
Markelle Fultz, PG/SG (38%). If you need assists, you can do much worse than Fultz. Two straight games of six assists nights, plus he's rebounding fairly well for a point guard too.
Eric Gordon, SG/SF (38%). Gordon dropped in ownership when he was out with an injury, but in his first game back he scored 20 points and had three assists.
Troy Brown, SG/SF (32%). In his last three games, Brown is averaging 16 points and nearly eight rebounds a game. Add in nearly four assists and two steals, and he's becoming a potential streaming option if you are dealing with an injury or two.
Gary Payton II, SG (28%). Payton II has been an absolute steal for the Wizards, both figuratively and literally. He has 13 steals in three games, he also has 22 rebounds and 35 points total in those three games. Fire him up!
