Wow. Where do we even start? The trade deadline week has come and gone and roughly 50 players found new homes within a matter of days. It was a crazy whirlwind the last 48 hours.
As far as actual basketball content went, the week saw many ups and downs as well. As always, below we have five players who stood out, five player who probably wish they blended in, and 10 potential waiver wire targets.
Fantasy Studs - League Leader Edition
5 guys who stood out from the rest this week by leading a statistical category over the past seven days.
Jayson Tatum. Tatum's been hitting on fire from deep lately. He hit 21 three's in his last four games to claim the top spot from threeland.
Damian Lillard. Lillard is playing out of his mind lately and has scored 122 points over his last four games, good for the top scoring spot this week.
Elfrid Payton. Payton is only owned in 59% of standard Yahoo leagues, but that should jump considerably soon. He lead the league in assists AND steals over the past seven days.
Myles Turner. Turner blocked 11 shots this week, good for first over the last seven days. He also added in three made three's, which is nice from the center position. He also had a 4-assist game sprinkled in too.
Jonas Valanciunas. The big man from Lithuania technically tied Giannis this week in most rebounds with 55, he also did this with one more game the Giannis. He gets the final spot in the top-5 due to also being top-3 in blocked shots, with 10 on the week.
Fantasy Duds
Five guys who are probably looking forward to putting this week behind them.
Montrezl Harrell. While Harrell scored 11 points, it's the one rebound, zero assists, zero steals stat line that left much to be desired.
Mitchell Robinson. No one is sure what is going on with the Knicks, but that fact that Robinson hasn't hit over 20 minutes of action the past four games hurt his fantasy value.
Carmelo Anthony. This is to be expected, but Anthony has had some real duds lately. Twice this week he was held to single-digit scoring and pretty poor shooting percentages.
Jaren Jackson Jr. JJJ has had his fair share of amazing games, followed by some paltry games. After putting up a very respectable line against the Mavericks, he followed it up with six points and two rebounds on 22% shooting.
Al Horford. Horford has become an after thought in the 76ers offense. On Sunday he missed all six shots and finished the game with zero points.
Week 16 Overview
While many players were on the move, that doesn't necessarily translate to much changing for the fantasy basketball landscape. I've put together a list below of possible changes as a result of the trade deadline.
Andre Drummond - he could take a dip in production based on no longer being one of the main focal points of the offense. He's surrounded by young, inexperienced guards, and will share a frontcourt with two longstanding veterans who also rebound well. Selling him now wouldn't be a bad idea. He's numbers should stay steady, but don't be surprised to see them dip.
Andrew Wiggins - for the rest of this season, Wiggins will remain fairly on pace with where he was. The Warriors no longer have Russell, Burks, or Robinson III, so Wiggins is going to have to be the main creator on offense.
D'Angelo Russell - Russell is going to benefit moving to the Timberwolves. He'll be the clear number two on a team where most defenses will focus on stopping Karl-Anthony Towns. If anything, his numbers should see a slight trend upwards.
Malik Beasely - he's only currently owned in 33% in leagues, but if you have an extra spot on your roster, I'd add him pretty quickly. He's going to get an opportunity to shine in Minnesota.
Clint Capela - he's going to miss some time on the Hawks. Presumably because they have little to play for right now, and getting Capela healthy is their top priority. I'd imagine his numbers could take a slight dip when he's healthy due to playing alongside John Collins.
Marcus Morris Sr. - Morris Sr. is going to see a decrease all across the board I'd imagine. He's no longer going to be the top dog on a team who needs help, but now he's going to be at best a third-option on a playoff contender.
Robert Covington - I like this move for Covington's fantasy purposes. He's still going to be the third-option offensively, but at least now he's on a team who will score a bunch of points and ask him to do the dirty work. He should rack up stats in a bunch of categories.
Everyone else who was on the move will most likely not have much fantasy impact for the remainder of the season.
Waiver Wire Potential
Here are 10 guys who are owned in 50% or less in standard Yahoo fantasy basketball leagues could possibly help your team this week.
Duncan Robinson, SG/SF/PF (49%). With Tyler Herro banged up and two new defensive wings added to the rotation, Robinson still projects to be a high volume three-point shooter off the bench.
Eric Paschall, SF/PF (44%). Quite a bit changed in Golden State and with three of their top scorers gone, someone else will have to fill in the gaps. Paschall is the perfect person to rise to the occasion.
Reggie Jackson, PG/SG (44%). Since he wasn't dealt during the trade deadline, Jackson, once again, has an opportunity to showcase himself. Twice this week he has games with nine assists.
Malik Beasley, PG/SG (41%). Beasley would be my go-to add this week. He has an opportunity to truly thrive on a Timberwolves team that needs more help. In his first game with the T'Wolves he scored 23 points and had 10 rebounds, four assists, and seven made three's.
Tim Hardaway Jr., SG/SF (39%). When Luka Doncic sits, Hardaway Jr. has an opportunity to lead an offense. Three times in his last four games he's hit five assists or more too.
Josh Hart, SG/SF (39%). As I've mentioned here before, Hart is a quality rebounder at the guard position, which is pretty valuable. He's also been a decent source of three's and steals lately too.
Daniel House Jr., SG/SF (38%). With Capela gone, House Jr. is surprisingly going to play some small ball-4. So there's a chance we see an increase in rebounds to go along with a scoring increase.
Jordan Clarkson, PG/SG (33%). Clarkson is mainly going to contribute towards points and three's only. However, sometimes that's all you need depending on what your roster looks like.
Darius Garland, PG (28%). Garland has had four straight games of 30+ minutes. In those games, he's tallied 23 assists, 10 made three's, and scored in double-digits all four games.
Dorian Finney-Smith, SF/PF (26%). Finney-Smith has been the defensive wing the Mavericks have relied upon the most this year. Lately, he's scoring more and adding in stats from each category. In his last six games he's averaging over three assists, over six rebounds, and over 13 points per game.
