Ahh, All-Star weekend. The time when NBA superstars converge into one meaningless weekend of festivities. It's also when fantasy basketball goes on a break, yet strangely also combines two weeks into one.
It makes sense though. Who want's to play two shortened weeks of fantasy basketball? Just turn the awkward timing of it all into one awkward week and keep it moving. Anywho, if you like lists, then I have three lists for you today.
Fantasy Studs
5 guys who stood out from the rest of the pack.
Trae Young. You've never scored 50 points in an NBA game before? Pssh, couldn't be Trae Young, who dropped 50 points on the Chicago Bulls with eight made three's and eight assists.
Bradley Beal. The Real Deal Beal drooped 53 points. Unfortunately the Wizards still lost, but fortunately for your fantasy team, that doesn’t matter.
Jayson Tatum. Tatum is turning into the leader the Celtics thought he could be. He tied a career-high 41 points on Sunday.
Deandre Ayton. Ayton is a man on a mission. He scored 28 points and had 19 rebounds and three blocks on Saturday. He too, is turning into the player his franchise believed he would become.
Anthony Davis. The big guy is doing it all, literally. He’s hitting three’s, bringing in double-digit rebounds, blocking shots, and even getting a decent amount of assists.
Fantasy Duds
5 guys who probably wish they could have a do-over.
Paul George. He doesn't quite look healthy right now. This has to be concerning for Clipper Nation, and also for anyone who rosters him on their team. In two games these combined weeks he shot around 20%.
Al Horford. Unfortunately for Horford owners, his fantasy relevance looks to be over. Since heading to a bench role, Horford hasn't scored in double-digits in awhile, his rebounding numbers haven't been great, and even his shooting has taken a hit.
Malcolm Brogdon. Brogdon hasn’t been shooting well lately. And the rest of his numbers have been all over the place too.
LaMarcus Aldridge. Much like Harris, Aldridge post All-Star break isn’t anything to write home about. The Spurs may not have much to play for soon, which doesn’t bode well for Aldridge.
Dejounte Murray. I’m a fan of Murray’s game. Prior to his last game it looked like he was starting to figure it all out. Then, he missed every shot he took on Sunday.
Weeks 17 & 18 Overview
By now, you are either in the playoffs, completely out of it, or it's going to come down to the wire. With only three more fantasy weeks left, you probably have a good idea of how everything is shaking down.
With the NBA's buyout marking in full effect right now, keep your eye out on guys who may be heading to where the grass is greener. Even getting a two week burst of good play could be enough to win you a coveted playoff spot. Remember Linsanity? I'm not saying Reggie Jackson with the Clippers, or Jeff Green with the Rockets will necessarily do the same, but just keep your eyes out.
Waiver Wire Potential
Here are 10 guys who are owned in 50% or less in standard Yahoo fantasy basketball leagues could possibly help your team this week.
Tim Hardaway Jr., SG/SF (48%). Luka Doncic is back, but the Mavericks third-option has been surprisingly solid most of the season.
Jae Crowder, SF/PF (42%). I thought his numbers could dip in Miami, but he's remained a steady force. He's scoring well, rebounding well, and is quite productive.
PJ Washington, SF/PF (41%). The Wizards rookie is quietly putting together a nice season. He's able to sprinkle in rebounds, assists, and steals each night.
Josh Hart, SG/SF (38%). Back-to-back double-digit rebounding games puts Hart back on the list. He's also consistently hitting a few three's per game too.
Malik Monk, PG/SG (37%). Monk is starting to put up a bunch of points each night. He's a good source of three's and can also help with rebounds and assists.
Eric Paschall, SF/PF (31%). The Warriors rookie is also quietly putting together a nice season. Like Washington, he's capable of doing a little bit of everything, which adds up to a nice stat line every now and then.
Cam Reddish, PG/SG/SF (28%). The multi-position rookie has been playing pretty well lately. Four straight double-digit scoring games and he's also been a good source of steals.
Darius Garland, PG (26%). If you need short-term point guard help, or at least a short-term boost in assists, Garland could be your man. He's had 6-7 assists in each of his last few games.
Seth Curry, PG/SG (25%). Curry is capable of scoring points in a hurry and his ability to hit consistently from three is nice. Fire him up if you need threes.
Kent Bazemore, SG/SF (24%). Bazemore has carved out a spot with the Kings. His last three games he's posting a line of over 18 points, over five rebounds, two steals, and two made three's a game.
