OTG's Trade Deadline Marathon: Chicago Lands Ingram

Chandler Harper

CHI receives: F Brandon Ingram, F Kenrich Williams

NOLA receives: G Coby White, F/C Lauri Markkanen

Why the Bulls would do it:

The Bulls made win-now moves this offseason, but they still have a nice young-core. They are also paper-thin on the wings. This move allows them to address their issues on the wing, help them stay young, and swap out two members of their core for a more proven potential young star. It would really sting to lose both White and Markkanen but as of now, they are still getting the best player back in the trade.

Markkanen has also had an up and down year and his fit next to Wendell Carter has been clunky at times. Swapping Markkanen and White out for Ingram gives them a more proven player who is probably the better fit going forward. Ingram also allows them to potentially role out more versatile lineups going forward, as well.

Zach Lavine and Ingram will make a great scoring duo and the Bulls would still have quality defenders surrounding them like Thaddeus Young, Tomas Satoransky, and Wendell Carter. Lavine and Ingram are both young enough that you can expect them to only get better with time.

Why the Pelicans would do it:

The Pelicans do this for a lot of reasons. Brandon Ingram has been great this year, but I think they need to sell high. I am a firm believer in starting the process of building the perfect team around Zion Williamson today. I would be looking at young players who can shoot and are not ball-dominant. There is a very real chance Brandon Ingram’s shooting regresses and he’s an inefficient ball-dominant player on a max contract going forward. His value is very high now and if the Pelicans are not sold, they should really think about making a move.

White and Markkanen fit the Pelicans timeline perfect and both would fit perfect in future lineups with Zion. White is a dynamic ball-handler who can spot up off-ball and get his own shot. Markkanen would provide plenty of floor spacing and would allow Zion to be a beast in the paint. White and Markkanen both also make sense playing next to other young Pelicans like Lonzo Ball, Jaxson Hayes, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker.
